He noted that XMRV, at this point, seems more HTLV-like – it’s present in small numbers in the blood and doesn’t appear to be replicating much.
(This could be misleading, however. XMRV could be replicating madly in some other part of the body. We know that the immune cells contain APOBEC3 enzymes that ‘edit’ XMRV sequences – thus largely shutting it’s replication down but that prostate cells do not contain this enzyme allowing XMRV to replicate in them.........

Amy Dockser Marcus at the Wall Street Journal has become the go-to journalist for news on XMRV and CFS in the national media. Now she’s broken the news that the Alter study, soon to be published in the prestigious journal “The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America”, has now been withheld from publication. This followed reports that a negative study by the CDC was yanked at the last minute from publication in another reputable journal ‘Retrovirology”...........

Webinars der CFIDS Association zu XMRV

Das nächste Webinar findet am 12. August 2010 statt. Thema ist XMRV und die Sicherheit der Blutbanken. Geplant ist ein Vortrag von Louis M. Katz, MD, Spezialist für Infektionskrankheiten und bekannter Experte für Fragen der Sicherheit von Blutbanken. Er wird Hintergrundinformationen geben und zu Fragen der Sicherheit angesichts des XMRV informieren. Man kann sich kostenlos hier registrieren und dann unter der angegebenen Webadresse zum Zeitpunkt des Beginns des Webinars einklinken.

Wo sind unsere Fürsprecher?
In Deutschland wird für die Erforschung von ME/CFS kein einziger Euro vom Staat bereitgestellt.
In den USA sind es jährlich ca. fünf Millionen Dollar. Klingt viel? Das ist weniger, als für Heuschnupfen aufgebracht wird und nur für zwei andere Krankheitsbilder steht noch weniger zur Verfügung. Wenn man die Auswirkungen dieser Krankheiten vergleicht, klingt es dann immernoch viel? Für die Folgen von Drogenmissbrauch stellt das National Institute of Health in den Staaten jährlich eine Milliarde USD bereit..........

XMRV und Blutspenden
Etwas verwirrend war, dass zwei darauf folgende britische Studien im Jahr 2010 nicht in der Lage waren, das XMRV in Blutproben von ME-Patienten zu finden, obwohl die Zeit möglicherweise zeigen wird, dass dies eher eine Frage von unterschiedlichen Studienkohorten und Testverfahren war, als dass dem Virus die Einreise nach Großbritannien verweigert worden wäre. Tatsächlich haben die US-Forscher ihre eigenen Testverfahren angewendet, um das XMRV in Großbritannien zu finden, und die Ergebnisse davon werden in Kürze bekannt gegeben werden.........

was dominiert zurzeit beim Thema XMRV?
Das US-Gesundheitsministerium blockierte im Juni 2010 zunächst die Veröffentlichung zweier XMRV-Studien mit diametral entgegengesetzten Ergebnissen, die beide durch Institutionen durchgeführt worden waren, die dem Ministerium unterstellt sind. Wenn man davon ausgeht, dass es im Interesse des Ministeriums ist, im Angesicht der Brisanz der Entdeckung des dritten humanen (infektiösen) Retrovirus eine klare Linie gegenüber der Öffentlichkeit zu vertreten........

Implikationen für die Behandlung
Die Daten der Lombardi et al Studie, die in Science veröffentlicht wurde, sind äußerst solide und wahrscheinlich richtig, trotz aller Kontroversen. Die Forscher haben nicht nur gag und envelope-Sequenzen des XMRV gefunden, sondern sie haben auch Zelllinien von Prostatagewebe infiziert und Partikel des Gammaretrovirus zurückgewonnen und das XMRV auf Rhesusaffen durch intravenöse Gabe übertragen und bewiesen, dass XMRV infektiös ist........
